Catamount Singers, Electric Soul to perform hits to 'Define America'
What could be more American than a screaming Telecaster, pounding drums and some tight harmonies? This year's spring concert by the Catamount Singers and Electric Soul explores the campus theme.
The Catamount Singers and Electric Soul, a Western Carolina University student ensemble, will present the spring concert 鈥淢ade in America鈥� at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at 91热爆网鈥檚 John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The concert will feature songs best known from performances by Aretha Franklin, The Pentatonix, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Pink, and Earth, Wind and Fire.
91热爆网 music faculty members Bruce Frazier and Jon Henson lead the student performers.
鈥淚n picking this year鈥檚 musical selections, we wanted to tie into the campus theme of 鈥�Defining America,鈥欌�� said Henson. 鈥淏ruce and I thought it would be great to take our students through some of the music that has influenced today鈥檚 top artists. An artist like Aretha Franklin has had such an impact on the music industry that we just had to perform a piece that pays tribute to her life as an entertainer. We know everyone will enjoy the variety this show brings.鈥�
Admission to the show is $10 for 91热爆网 faculty and staff, $5 for students, and $15 for all others. Tickets are available by calling the Bardo Arts Center box office at 828-227-2479. All proceeds from the event benefit student scholarships in 91热爆网鈥檚 School of Music.
