A Tony-nominated actor and spoken word artist will be making his way to Western Carolina University.
Daniel J. Watts, a Broadway actor who also portrays Bruno Tess on HBO鈥檚 鈥淭he Penguin,鈥 will perform as part of the Fall Speaker Series on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the A.K. Hinds University Center Theater. Admission is free.
Watts, a North Carolina native, has appeared in 10 Broadway shows, including Hamilton and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical as Ike Turner, which he received a Tony Award nomination for.
Along with his role in 鈥淭he Penguin,鈥 Watts has appeared in Paramount+鈥檚 鈥淭HE CHI,鈥 Marvel Studios鈥 鈥淲erewolf by Night鈥 and more. He鈥檚 received a regional Emmy nomination, and his TED Talk, 鈥淭o accomplish great things, you need to 鈥榣et the paint dry,鈥欌 has over 450,000 views.
Watts graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music from Elon University and has served as an adjunct professor at New York University and an artist-in-residence at Arizona State University.
He鈥檚 currently preparing for a new musical entitled 鈥3 Summers of Lincoln鈥 at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California.
