Research Administration announces grants for faculty, staff projects

Title: A Cross-sectional View of Development in Learning to Teach Writing: From Candidates through the Novice Teaching Years

PI: Roya Scales

Funder: Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers

Amount: 2,993

Description: to examine participants’ confidence as writers and teachers of writing, and how those perceptions influence writing instruction and student writing outcomes

Title: Expanding Early Education in Cullowhee: Expanding Services for Eligible Student-Parents (Triple E in the Whee)

Description: to expand child care opportunities for Pell-eligible students who are parents, by increasing the number of child care spaces on campus and assisting with the cost of care

Title: INTERprofessional Autism Collaborative Training - Project INTERACT

PI: Bill Ogletree

Funder: US Department of Education

Amount: $250,000

Description: to prepare 60 graduate trainees to address the complex needs of children with autism spectrum disorders presenting moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, addressing chronic personnel shortages

Title: LEAP: Language Enhancement Afterschool Program

PI: Kimberly Winter

Funder: Cullowhee United Methodist Church

Amount: $120,000

Description: to fund a full-time 11-month coordinator in order to reinstate an after-school literacy program for English-language learners

Title: Vulnerability to Natural Hazards of National Park Facilities, Assets, and Historic Structures

PI: Rob Young

Funder: National Park Service

Amount: $293,410

Description: to produce complete vulnerability assessments and related products for all coastal parks in the Southeast Region, in addition to other highly exposed units of the National Park System
