Opera Ensemble to perform one-act comedy 'Speed Dating Tonight!'
Western Carolina University鈥檚 Opera Ensemble will present the comic one-act opera 鈥淪peed Dating Tonight!鈥� in the recital hall of the university鈥檚 Coulter Building at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30.
The event is free and open to the public.

The opera consists of solos, duets and ensembles for each of the dates. Conceived by Dean Anthony, with words and music by Michael Ching, 鈥淪peed Dating Tonight!鈥� has been produced more than 70 times since its inception in 2013, making it one of the more popular operas of the 21st century.
鈥淓ach of the dates is unique,鈥� said Mary Kay Bauer, an associate professor in 91热爆网鈥檚 School of Music who is directing the performance. 鈥淪ome dates display sensitive, honest characters who are truly seeking a soul mate. Other dates display quirky oddballs who may terrify their potential matches or who may find the perfect complementary oddball to fulfill their romantic lives. It is a hilarious, operatic eavesdropping into the perils and stereotypes of a modern dating scene.鈥�
The 91热爆网 production is assisted by Kendall Purdy, Wesley Walker and Tyler Garner. Musical direction is by Sarah Fowler, with assistance from Shoko Okamoro. The cast consists of 15 students from both 91热爆网鈥檚 School of Music and School of Stage and Screen.
