Faculty Scholarship Celebration coming up Feb. 21 will include award announcements

Western Carolina University鈥檚 30th annual Faculty Scholarship Celebration will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Conference Room of Blue Ridge Hall to recognize creative and academic works by faculty and staff.

The is organized through a partnership between Hunter Library, the Honors College, Office of the Provost and Graduate School and Research, with support from the Office of the Chancellor. It coincides with the opening of an exhibit of creative works at Hunter Library.

This year's Faculty Scholarship Celebration exhibit is primarily displaying authored and edited books, including "Jennifer Higdon: Composing in Color" by Christina Reitz, associate professor of music.

The event will include announcement of faculty research and creative activities awards, the Hunter Scholar Award and the provost鈥檚 internal grant recipients. The Hunter Scholar Award provides funding, a graduate assistant, a course release and other support to promote research that utilizes library resources. Also, the Million Dollar Circle awards, given to grant writers who have attained $1 million or more in grants during their time at 91热爆网, will be announced.

The exhibit runs through Friday, March 8, and includes art, literature, musical performances, posters, installations and more, offers an opportunity for the campus community and the public to learn more about the contributions that faculty members make beyond the classroom. For consideration, the selected works must have been subject to professional peer review and produced with an expectation of dissemination.
