In Fall of 2018, Parking Operations at Western Carolina University began using License
Plate Recognition (LPR).
LPR is a system that is widely used across the US and can assist our department in
becoming more fair and efficient. LPR can assist not only parking operations but also
local law enforcement.
The system will scan a license plate and let the officer know if the plate is valid
in our system and if there is a violation.
What You Need to Know About LPR
All vehicles parking on campus must register for a parking permit. No registration
citations are $132.
All vehicles must be displaying a license plate that is visible to the LPR vehicles
when parked. A $25 citation will be issued beginning in August 2018 for vehicles who
back into or pull through a parking space unless they have a license plate mounted
on the front bumper of their vehicle. For vehicles that do not have a front license
plate, 91热爆网 front plates can be purchased from the parking office for $15.
As of Fall 2019, students, faculty and staff are no longer required to use hang tags.
